Catalonia Cabeza de Toro Golf Course, Punta Cana, Bavaro

9 hole golf course situated inside the Catalonia Bavaro Beach, Golf and Casino Resort and is as such a nice little golf course that mainly has attraction to the guests already staying in the resort. A proof that is that when golfindr.com test played the golf course the security guard at the gate to the resort did not know that this was also the entrance to the golf course. He therefore send us on an excursion to find another entrance that was not there. Once inside the resort only a few people knew where we had to go to sign up for the round at the Catalonia Cabeza de Toro Golf Course.

Once on the golf course we found a nice layout of the golf course that however was not in the best of conditions even though the time we played it could not be considered maintenance season. The course does offer some difficulty with quiet a lot of water in play. However since the golf course must be considered rather short that water should not pose much difficulty to most players. The Catalonia Cabeza de Toro Golf Course has 3 tee boxes that can best be described as very short, short and medium length.

Hole by hole description of Catalonia Cabeza de Toro Golf Course

Hole 1 at the Catalonia Cabeza de Toro Golf Course: Dogleg left par 4 hole where there is a lake situated halfway down the hole on the left side. This lake will catch all golf balls where the player tries to cut to much of the corner. The green is set on a little plateau.

Hole 2 at the Catalonia Cabeza de Toro Golf Course: Short par 4 where most players will benefit from not being to aggressive of the tee box. The fairway turns right two thirds down the hole. Green has water to the right and rear to catch stray golf balls.

Hole 3 at the Catalonia Cabeza de Toro Golf Course: The only hole that can rightfully be considered long according to the par. It is a par 4 that plays just over 400 yards from the back tee. What also makes this hole a bit more difficult then all the others is that this fairway seems to be a bit more narrow then what the other holes has to offer. The green is set with difficulty on 3 sides. Therefore if you want to play safe play short of this green.

Hole 4 at the Catalonia Cabeza de Toro Golf Course: Short par 4 that long hitters will take a crack at in one. A lake is on situated on the left side but is not really in play. A bunker is only really challenge guarding the green short.

Hole 5 at the Catalonia Cabeza de Toro Golf Course: Another short par 4 where it is not recommendable to try to get on the green in one as there is a lake just short of the green. The wise play on this hole is a safe stroke to the fairway and an ion to the green from there. Once past the lake you should be safe on this hole.

Hole 6 at the Catalonia Cabeza de Toro Golf Course: Fairly short par 3 that does not offer much difficulty.

Hole 7 at the Catalonia Cabeza de Toro Golf Course: Fairly short par 4 that can be reached in one. However since the fairway turns right just before the green that would be a risky stroke as the green is hidden behind some palm trees. A stroke down the fairway will leave most players with a fairly simple and safe approach shot.

Hole 8 at the Catalonia Cabeza de Toro Golf Course: Fairly difficult par 5 that does not pressure most players on distance but on accuracy. Plenty of space for the drive. However for the second stroke the player will have to make a choice of whether to play safe or to try to get past the lake that is situated on the right side of the fairway and therefore making the fairway rather narrow. A safe play is to play short of the lake as this will only leave the player with 110 to 140 yards depending on how close to the lake the stroke is set up.

Hole 9 at the Catalonia Cabeza de Toro Golf Course: Short par 3 that calls for accuracy as most other areas then the green will mean trouble for the player. If to play safe it is recommendable to play short of the green.
