Iberostate Golf Course at Iberostar Resort presented by Golf in the Dominican Republic:
Inland resort type golf course that offers 18 holes at par 72 with 4 tee boxes to be chosen from. The overall impression og the Iberostar Golf Course is that it has a very nice and interesting layout that still plays fair. The impression therefore is that this golf course is one of the better and more interesting to play when comparing with other inland golf courses in the Punta Cana area and therefore absolutely worth a visit. There has been spend a great deal of time, effort and money reshaping the landscape in order to make the golf course look like it does and play as interesting as it does. If you go to visit the Iberostar Golf Course on the drive to the golf course please make a note of how flat the landscape is. Once you pass the gate to the Iberostar Golf Course the character of the landscape changes completely. However it has been done in a nice manner so that if not compared to the surrounding area players won't give a second thought to all the small hills and slopes. Also the areas where golf is not played is very well maintained with flowers and more which enhances the impression that the Iberostar Golf Course is worth a visit.
The Iberostate Golf Course at Iberostar Resort is designed by P. B. Dye and opened in 2009.
Hole by hole description:
Hole 1 at Iberostar Golf Course: Pretty straight forward par 4 hole where the tee shot should not be made to aggressive as distance is not the trouble on the hole. Try to set up a drive either center or right fairway. The approach shot to the green is somewhat more difficult with a lake on the left, slopes to the rear and bunkers to the right. Green is long but not wide.
Hole 2 at Iberostar Golf Course: Par 3 hole where anyone who hits the green in regulation walks away with a smile as especially the are short and to the right poses trouble as this area is 15 to 25 feet below the putting surface. A safer play from the tee box is to the left although that area has some slopes give players a challenge.
Hole 3 at Iberostar Golf Course: Par 4 where once again the smart player will try to set up a safe tee shot to the fairway. There is more room on the left then on the right. Like on hole 1 the trouble is the approach shot. Once again there is a lake – this time a large beautiful lake – on the left side of the green. Directly to the right players find a cave like hole with to bunkers in it. To get up from there the golf ball has to be lifted 10 to 15 feet. But be aware of the lake on the other side of green. Further to the right of the cave like hole players will find a couple of bunkers that are defenat not fun to be in as players then has to carry the cave like hole but take care not to overshot the green and land in the lake. Great fun!
Hole 5 at Iberostar Golf Course: Pretty straight forward par 5 where the first and second shot can best be described as get the ball in play and keep the ball in play. The fun start when ready to approach the green as this is rather narrow but long and with different plateaus. An approach from the center or left side is the easiest. Be aware of the bunkers on especially the right side and the slopes behind and on the left side of the green.
Hole 6 at Iberostar Golf Course: Par 4 hole where left or center fairway is the best way to go. More room then it appears when standing on the tee but a lot of slopes from the tee box to the green can give some awkward stands. The green is sitting a bit higher then the fairway making it hard to see exactly where to go. Also a couple of bunkers going to the green with high back edges blur the view of the green. A deep bunker to the right of the green.
Hole 7 at Iberostar Golf Course: Short par 3 where the players start from a high tee box. From there it is on to a low fairway and then again uphill to the green. The biggest challenge here therefore is the hight difference from tee to fairway to green.
Hole 8 at Iberostar Golf Course: Interesting par 3 with plenty of waste area, a large lake to the left and then the green with just a bit of grass around it. Whoever miss this green you don not need to have to much hope of not being in some kind of trouble.
Hole 9 at Iberostar Golf Course: Long par 5 hole where the left side is the safer. Bunkers on the right side. Bunkers in the fairway about 100 to 130 yards from the green. Also bunkers around the green. A safer play to the green is to stay right.
Hole 10 at Iberostar Golf Course: Anyone who like water on a hole will love this hole. Everyone else will hate it. A par 4 that bends to the right with a lake down the right side all the way from the tee to the green. Stay left but be aware of the bunkers on the left side that of course a located in driving distance. Rather large green where the only challenge is to ignore the water.
Hole 11 at Iberostar Golf Course: Long and straight par 4 where main challenge is distance.
Hole 12 at Iberostar Golf Course: Medium long par 4 where main challenge is the combination of distance and precision. A safe play is to stay stay center or a bit to the right hand side. A very long green where a put from one end to the other will be a challenge to any player.
Hole 13 at Iberostar Golf Course: Monster long par 4 where there is no shame in playing it as a par 5. Plenty of room for the driver but narrow approach to the green where the bunkers and trees on the left side might be the least of problems. The right hand side offers a big lake that goes around back of the green. A waste area guards the area between the fairway and the lake and will catch some golf balls that might otherwise have gone in the lake.
Hole 14 at Iberostar Golf Course: Long and challenging par 5 where the first challenge is getting past a big lake that follows the right hand side of the fairway. Once on dry land the second challenge is crossing the a 5 yard wide stream of water that connects the before mentioned lake with the lake that on the second half of the hole guards the left side as the fairways bends slightly to the left. The green has a slight downward slope from the center to the end of the green making it hard to get a clear view if the flag is placed on the second half of the green.
Hole 15 at Iberostar Golf Course: Short but fairly narrow par 4 where the player on top of a narrow fairway will find plenty of bunkers guarding the fairway and the green. Not really any reason to play safe form the tee box. Try to clear as much trouble as possible from the start.
Hole 16 at Iberostar Golf Course: Very short par 3 that is all about precision. Hit the green or be in trouble! Visually the biggest challenge is the lake that stretches from the tee box to the green and goes around the right side. But the other 2 sides also offers challenges so the easiest play is just to hit the green! :-)
Hole 17 at Iberostar Golf Course: Long par 5 that offers a wide fairway once past yet another lake. Stay either center or to the right as the left offers a lot of awkward stands due to a lot of slopes. The green is fairly simple except for a couple of bunkers coming to the green and a run of area behind the green.
Hole 18 at Iberostar Golf Course: Excellent, difficult and interesting finishing hole. A long par 4 with plenty of room for the drive. However try to stay either in the center or to the left side. The green is has water half way around the edges starting on the front right side and then going around the right hand side covering all of he back of the green. Needles to say an approach shot to the left side is the safe play on this hole where a par or even a birdie will make the cold beer in the clubhouse taste even a bit better.
