Punta Blanca Golf Club presented by Golf in the Dominican Republic:

Punta Blanca Golf Course located just to the north west of Bávaro is one of the areas more well maintained golf courses. Fairways are most of the year in good condition. The greens are also in nice shape however a bit to the soft side. This means that most golf balls that land carry will stay on green. But it also means that it is almost impossible to get any release when approaching. The golf ball will normally roll very well when on the putting surface. The Punta Blanca Golf Course is designed by world famous golf player Nick Price. Depending on what tee box you choose this golf course can play very long. Fairways are rather wide but with plenty of build in obstacles. The Punta Blanca Golf Course is a resort golf course with housing projects along some of the fairways. However when playing you are not left with the feeling that you are walking around in a suburban area as most of the golf course is left to be golf course.

Punta Blanca Golf Course was designed by Nick Price and opened in 2007.

Hole by hole description:

Hole 1 at Punta Blanca Golf Course: Long straight par 4 hole with plenty of room for the drive. Fairway narrows when approaching the green. Once you get to the green you will find a big green that is only protected somewhat by a run of area to left.

Hole 2 at Punta Blanca Golf Course: Long par 3 hole that visually can be a challenge as about half of the green is hidden when standing on the tee. Green is guarded by a bunker to short right side. Other then that distance is the major obstacle on this hole. The green is build with 2 different plateaus. The front right being the top and the back left being the lower part.

Hole 3 at Punta Blanca Golf Course: Par 4 hole where the challenge from the tee box is manifested by two bunkers; one on each side of the fairway. Once safely past those two bunkers the player will face the real challenge of this hole. An approach shot to a green that is guarded by a bunker and a lake. There is a bit of room on to the left of the green. But rather it would by wise to play short of the lake if playing safe. When approaching remember that the greens on the Punta Blanca Golf Course are soft and will catch almost any ball carried to the green. The green us undulated which makes for the last challenge.

Hole 4 at Punta Blanca Golf Course: Long and straight par 5 hole where the player will tee of in to a wide fairway. The second shot does also have plenty of room. However a bunker to the left gives the appearance that it is rather narrow. Once you are ready to the approach shot you will find a fairly easy approach shot to a big green only guarded by one bunker to the front.

Hole 5 at Punta Blanca Golf Course: Long and difficult par 4 hole where the drive goes to a fairway with bunkers to the left and bushes etc. on both sides if your golf ball strays to far. Most player will have a long approach shot that might wisely be played as two shots. A lake guards the green to the right and rear. Furthermore this green is long and narrow which adds to the difficulty. The green is in two plateaus with the lower portion located to the far end.

Hole 6 at Punta Blanca Golf Course: Relative short par 3 where the green is set a bit higher then the surrounding area. Guarded by a couple of bunkers. Also the player will or can find an area with bushes etc. just to the right of the green. All in all a difficult par 3 due to the fact that this is a difficult green to hit.

Hole 7 at Punta Blanca Golf Course: Par 4 that plays down a slope helping it appear like a short par 4 hole. 3 bunkers on the right side of the fairway will catch a lot of the big slicers. Once ready for the approach shot the player will be faced with a lake on the left side of the green. Depending on pin position this lake will at least make for a visual challenge of most players. Plenty of room to the right if wanting to play safe.

Hole 8 at Punta Blanca Golf Course: Short par 4 that is made difficult by a small green set on a 4 – 5 feet high plateau making any golf ball missing roll a bit away from the green. Be aware of a bunker to the left and waste area to the right. The result of missing the green is that the player is left with a difficult shot to get back up on the short cut grass. Once on the green you will find a fairly flat green that should not give to much trouble.

Hole 9 at Punta Blanca Golf Course: Dogleg right par 5 that can be reached with two solid shots. A waste area however guards the corner on the right side of the fairway and once in that the dream of reaching the green in two fades very fast. If playing hole as a par 5 simply start of with two conservative shot which will or should leave you with an easy approach. A bunker is guarding the green to the short right side.

Hole 10 at Punta Blanca Golf Course: Short and straight par 4 where the challenge in the drive lies in avoiding hitting in the bunker on the right hand side of the fairway. Green is guarded by a bunker to the short left side. Other then that plenty of room.

Hole 11 at Punta Blanca Golf Course: Long par 3 starting from an elevated tee box. Green is rather undulated making for some challenges if not hitting the right plateau on the green. Green is guarded by two bunkers; one on each side of the green. Also a third bunker which is more a visual distortion. Should not be in play.

Hole 12 at Punta Blanca Golf Course: Straight par 5 that can be reached in two. Bunkers guarding the left side of the fairway. Also a couple of bunkers can be found a short pitch shot away from the green. Plenty of room around the relative flat green.

Hole 13 at Punta Blanca Golf Course: Short par 3 with plenty of visual and actual difficulty. Any play must be able to carry the golf ball about 100 yards to clear a hazard. Once that is done the rather narrow green is set high with run of areas and 2 bunkers to catch any golf ball of target. The green it self is also a challenge due to the may slopes on the green.

Hole 14 at Punta Blanca Golf Course: Winding par 5 hole that starts of to the right. Then a shot to the left. And finally an approach to the right. The long hitter should be able to reach this green in two however it will be at a great risk. Waste area and vegetation guards the fairway. Two bunkers guard the green. Also there is not as much room around this green as is normally seen on the other holes at Punta Blanca Golf Course.

Hole 15 at Punta Blanca Golf Course: Par 3 hole that is very similar to hole 13. Player must be able to carry the golf ball 100 yards or more. Green is guarded by 3 bunkers as well as run of area. Mis this green and you will have a tough job securing your par.

Hole 16 at Punta Blanca Golf Course: Pretty straight forward par 4 where the player should consider if possible to clear the two bunkers on the left side of fairway as this will make the hole play shorter. When ready for the approach short you will find a fairly unguarded green just waiting for you to attack the pin position. One bunker can be found to the right of the green.

Hole 17 at Punta Blanca Golf Course: Par 5 hole where the green is hidden in a 90 degree angel to the left at the end of the fairway. Can be reached with two solid shots. However due to the hidden green this might be taking a big chance despite the fact that there is plenty of room around the green. If playing the hole as a par 5 most players should be able to cover the distance with tree relaxed shots. Green is big and guarded by a couple of bunkers.

Hole 18 at Punta Blanca Golf Course: Tricky par 4 to finish the round. A waste are guards the best area to land the golf ball from the tee box. The wise player plays down the right side and stays short of the waste area. From there the distance to the green should be fairly easy to cover for most players. A bunkers guards the left side of the fairway. Once past the waste area the player will find a relative small – long and narrow - green that does not offer to many obstacles in the form of slopes ets.
